Clare Paynter
Senior Electrical Engineer, Meridian Energy
Clare Paynter is a chartered electrical engineer with a background spanning the full spectrum of the renewable energy sector - from grid operations and consulting to building a wind farm in Antarctica. She now works at Meridian, helping shape a new data-driven future for the business. Originally from northern Australia, Clare studied engineering and political science at the Australian National University, driven by a passion for the intersection of technical excellence and clear communication. She’s excited to co-chair the Ngākau Hihiko Canterbury Regional Committee and create more opportunities for women in the power sector to connect, share, and thrive. Outside of work, Clare enjoys exploring the Port Hills with her two young boys.
Jayne Perrin
Manager – Southern Power, Beca
Jayne is a leader in the Beca Power management team, spanning approx. 120 design engineers and project delivery teams across NZ working in high voltage power and renewable energy. Her career spans over 20 years - including land development, water projects for local government, and now the energy sector. Jayne thrives on the collaborative nature of engineering projects, always striving to help others realise their potential at work. Leading by example, she is especially passionate about mentoring and empowering women in infrastructure. Recognising the vital role that electrification plays in advancing decarbonisation, Jayne is committed to making a positive impact through her work in the energy sector.
Evie Trolove
Head of Market and Customer Innovation, Orion
Evie is the Head of Market and Customer Innovation at Orion, where she leads development of strategies and solutions that create value for customers. Her work supports electrification by enabling smart, flexible, and equitable electricity networks. Prior to joining Orion, Evie managed a programme of innovative projects at UK Power Networks and led collaborative initiatives at the UK’s Energy Networks Association. Her background is Chemical and Process Engineering which she studied at the University of Canterbury, where she is now an Adjunct Fellow of the Electric Power Engineering Centre (EPECentre).
CAroline rea
Civil Engineering Manager, Renewable Construction– Meridian Energy
Caroline Rea is a Civil Engineer and Project Manager, who has worked in the electricity industry for the past 14 years with Meridian Energy. Having previous experience in managing projects for Hydro Generator Refurbishments, Dam Safety Improvements, she has successfully landed the role as the Senior Project Manager for Mt Munro Wind Farm, which is currently being developed by Meridian.
Caroline loves tacking challenging projects and working with stakeholders and customers to find solutions relating to complex issues. Her current role provides her with a direct opportunity to contribute to the goal of decarbonising Aotearoa’s economy something she is incredibly passionate about in and out of work.
Caroline loves creating an inviting team environment, which allows all members to be themselves, have the ability to thrive and perform at their best while getting the opportunity to learn and grow.
Sarah Hutchinson
Electricity Supply Manager – Waitaki Region, Meridian Energy
Sarah Hutchison is a seasoned leader in the energy sector, with more than 15 years of experience. Currently Regional Manager for Hydro Generation in the Waitaki Valley at Meridian Energy, she is known for building high-performing teams, driving operational excellence, and leading change with integrity and empathy. Sarah leads with a strong focus on safety, stakeholder collaboration, and continuous improvement. She is passionate about creating inclusive, resilient workplaces. With a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Canterbury and extensive professional development in leadership, safety and mediation, Sarah brings to the committee a deep commitment to empowering women in the energy industry.
Eve O'Brien
Internal Engagement and Communications Lead, Alpine Energy
Eve brings extensive experience in communications, engagement, and internal culture-building to her role on the Ngākau Hihiko Canterbury Regional Hub Committee. With a career spanning broadcasting, corporate engagement, and strategy communications, she has a passion for connecting people through clear, creative, and meaningful messaging.
Currently working as Internal Engagement and Communications Lead at Alpine Energy, Eve focuses on strengthening workplace culture, building connection, and ensuring people feel informed and included. Her background in media, quality assurance, and operational support gives her a unique perspective on how effective communication can empower thriving communities.
As part of the Hub, Eve is committed to empowering women in the energy industry to thrive through authentic storytelling and strengthening the visibility and voice of Ngākau Hihiko.
